The goal of Human Population Genetics and Genomics (HPGG; ISSN 2770-5005) is to publish the highest quality and most creative work being done in the field [1]. As a new journal, however, we also have a unique opportunity to pursue additional activities that may be useful for our community. To this end, I am excited to announce that HPGG will publish a monthly format referred to as "Journal Club" in which myself or another editor will write a short overview of a recently published paper relevant to human population genetics and genomics. Journal Club contributions from the community are also welcome. We hope this will be another way to help you find interesting papers you may have missed, and over time we envision building mechanisms to support broader community participation and discussion of the manuscripts selected for Journal Club. The inaugural Journal Club article will be published in the next few weeks so be on the look out for it!.

Our editorial board is actively developing a number of additional creative endeavors that we hope to unveil in the coming months. We also welcome your ideas and suggestions about other activities that you think would be valuable to our readers. Although not all of our ideas are likely to succeed, we are eager to try new things and be innovative in the service of the human population genetics and genomics community.
